Life Coaching through Equine Experiential Learning Sessions
Equine Experiential Learning is an active learning style in which clients partner with horses to foster self-awareness. Equine activities are designed to help clients recognize old thought patterns that no longer serve them. Horses have an innate ability to identify incongruent feelings which, in turn, help humans stay authentic in their feelings and actions. Horses are by nature non-judgmental. They simply view emotions as information.
Experiential Learning sessions can be for the individual, couple, family, or group. The client chooses the skill they would like to focus on, such as: authentic communication, working together, leadership, and boundary setting. The facilitator then creates equine tasks that focus on the determined skill. The client(s) can learn from their experience through being engaged in the task with their horse. This is a learning session, different from therapy, because the client takes what they want from the experience. The facilitator does not imply or suggest how the client felt, but simply asks questions so that the client may investigate their feelings through self-introspection. Equine experiential learning is beneficial for clients who are dealing with generalized feelings of anxiety or depression as this work often helps to open up the mind and body connection to address the underlying patterns in life that are exacerbating these types of feelings.
